KUALA LUMPUR – More than 100 Hong Kong police officers donned protective gear in search of the remains of dismembered model Abby Choi in the North East New Territories landfill.
Using excavators and shovels, police are looking for her hands and torso, among others.
The police force’s Alan Chung said the suspects threw away bags of evidence last Wednesday morning and authorities believed they might contain human remains, the victim’s clothes, and mobile phone as well as weapons.
According to the Associated Press, police have yet to find substantial evidence in the landfill except for some bones, either of human or animal origin.
Police also revealed that another woman – believed to have been in an affair with Choi’s former father-in-law – was arrested for allegedly assisting the other suspects.
She is out on bail pending investigations.
Meanwhile, Choi’s family had gathered near the house where her body parts were discovered to pay respects.
Choi’s ex-husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi – who is being detained for his alleged involvement in her gruesome murder – has been accused of stealing 39 necklaces, 32 bracelets, 13 gold bars, 102 gold grains, six pendants, and 10 taels of gold.
It was reported that the offences took place between May 2013 and January 2015 in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, and Harbour Plaza Metropolis hotel. He had previously absconded and failed to appear in court in 2015.
He is among four who were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in Choi’s murder. They have been detained since Monday without bail.
They are Alex’s father Kwong Kau, 65, and 31-year-old brother Anthony Kwong Kong-kit – both were charged with Choi’s murder.
Alex’s 63-year-old mother, Jenny Li Sui-heung, meanwhile, faces a charge of perverting the course of justice for allegedly destroying evidence.
Last Saturday, police found partial remains in a fridge and soup pots at a seaside house.
After a later examination of materials seized at the property, police uncovered what they believe to be Choi’s skull, hair, and several ribs.
The property where police found bodily remains was equipped with an electric saw and a meat grinder that had been used to mince human flesh.
According to police, Choi had financial disputes with her ex-husband and his family involving a luxury property.
The mother of two had divorced Alex and remarried Chris Tam, the scion of a wealthy Hong Kong family.
Choi had four children, aged between three and 10, of which the older two were with Alex. Her friends also described Choi as having a good relationship with her ex-husband and his family. – The Vibes, March 1, 2023
